Ash Heeger

Chef and Owner of ASH, Ash Heeger was born in Mthatha and raised in Cape Town.
Ash knew she wanted to be a professional chef by the time she was ten years old. No other career was ever an option for her.
After completing her school career at Herschel Girls School, she jumped straight into the culinary arts at Silwood School of Cookery. Ash completed three years and trained under the guidance of Luke Dale Roberts, first at La Colombe followed by The Test Kitchen
She then spread her wings and travelled to London. After a stint at the Ledbury in Notting Hill, she moved to Dinner by Heston Blumenthal and spent two years learning from the best, growing in her talent and working her way up the ranks.
At 26, Ash decided it was time to come home and and open a restaurant of her very own.
The rest is history.

Charcoal Cooking

The Josper is an indoor charcoal oven. It's an elegant combination of a grill and an oven in a single machine.

Why:  The flavor is unparalleled to any other cooking method, across the board. Think smoky meat, fish & veg.

The Wine

Publik is a neighborhood wine bar with a focus on the more unusual and interesting wines available. We serve wines made from sustainably farmed vineyards and made with minimal intervention in the cellar.

The bar is the place to discover quality, lesser-known wines served by a knowledgeable team. Our list changes regularly to ensure you can enjoy something new each time you visit.

The Venue

Being a finalist for the  2016 Boschendal Style Award , really says it all.

The venue was designed by Marco Simal of Studio Simal and executed by Carlos La, and Lloyd Stocks of Stocks Projects. The Kitchen was designed by Chef & Owner Ash Heeger with Mac Brothers.  As a team they’ve transformed this Church Street basement into a stylish & elegant restaurant.

Having just completed the most recent renovations in June this year, ASH is only improving. The outdoor area has become a stylish space of its own with terazzo floors, wooden benches and glass walls.

A mix of dark moody colours, matte wood, marble-topped tables & plush leather seating complete the interor .

The kitchen steals the show. One  of the coolest open kitchens in Cape Town, Chef Ash &  Team work against a backdrop of emerald green, black & white tiles. With the Josper the clear hero. A year in and the kitchen looks the same as day one. No need to make any changes here. Why mess with perfection.
